Firefighters in the Bond County area had an active weekend.
The Keyesport Fire Protection District was called to a camper fire Saturday the 25th on Main Street. in Keyesport. According to Fire Chief Jim Golder a neighbor noticed the fire and alerted the owners. The camper was being used for storage. Although the camper was sitting next to the garage there was no damage to that structure. The fire was contained to the rear of the camper. There was approximately $2,500 damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Smithboro Firefighters were called Sunday, October 26, at 7:51 p.m., to a report of a combine fire on King Road east of Smithboro. According to Fire Chief Dale Deverick, the combine belongs to Marchello Brothers and was north of Rt. 40 near some grain bins. The suspected cause of the fire is an overheated bearing deep inside the back part of the combine, which caught dust and bean tailings on fire. Damage is unknown but is not expected to be extensive. There were no injuries and firefighters were on the scene about two hours.
