A Walshville woman was killed in a two vehicle accident in rural Fayette County Friday morning.
At 9:49 a.m. 22 year old Sheridan Compton of Walshville was heading south on IL Rt. 128 while 48 year old Charles Marts, Jr. of Cowden was heading northbound on 128. The two met at a curve in the road and Compton’s vehicle continued straight, striking Marts’s vehicle head-on. Marts’s Chevy Silverado overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
Sheridan Compton was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen. According to state police, Compton was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Marts was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, where he was treated and released.
The accident remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Illinois State Police.
