When the new fundraising committee for the Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation (LRCF) formed this past spring, they set a goal of $20,000. Ten teams spent the summer hosting cookouts, trivia nights, bowling tournaments, car washes, and even an art night to raise dollars and awareness for the LRCF, a not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance to local cancer patients. The fundraising campaign culminated in the Celebration of Life Festival on September 13. The goal of $20,000 was easily surpassed.
Jennifer Lappe, chairperson of the LRCF fundraising committee, recently announced that the teams generated $34,706.70. Organizers were thrilled considering fundraising didn’t officially begin until May. The committee has designated $3,000 to be donated to Washington University’s Siteman Cancer Research Center. The remaining funds will assist the foundation’s goal to provide a helping hand to Bond County residents who are battling cancer. Bart Caldieraro, LRCF Board Chairman, expressed his gratitude to the dozens of volunteers who held fundraisers this year. Team Marti, a family team formed in honor of the late Dave Marti, was the top moneymaker—raising over $6,000.
