Greenville College To Dedicate J K L Academic Hall

Greenville College will dedicate the J K L Academic Hall on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. J K L Academic Hall is located on the northeast corner of Main and Locust Streets in Greenville. The space was recently renovated to accommodate the college’s Department of Philosophy and Religion.

Formerly known as the McCracken Office Building, the Bond County Office of the State of Illinois Department of Human Services occupied the site prior to the State’s closure of that office this past January. The building features 2,850 square feet newly reconfigured to include offices, a classroom and common area. The public is welcome to the dedication and invited to tour the remodeled space.

The property and part of its renovation costs are gifts to Greenville College from Don and Esther (Knapp) Jones. It is named in honor of Don and his two sisters, Ellen (Jones) Kingsley and Anna Lorraine (Jones) Long, all GC alumni. With this gift, Don and Esther Jones have surpassed $1 million in lifetime giving to Greenville College.

The building was given in memory of the siblings’ parents, Charles H. and Marie E. Jones, who raised their family in Sumner, Illinois, during the Great Depression.
