Academic Foundation Announces Additional Teacher Grants

In their annual meeting in October, the Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation announced nearly $8,000 in grants to fund projects for classrooms throughout the Unit 2 School District.

The group conducted a special meeting in early December and announced an additional slate of grants, exceeding $2,000, which were made possible by recent contributions. Additionally, the Unit 2 School District was able to fund some extra teacher grants.

The recent additions bring the total amount of teacher grants funded in the 2014-2015 school year to $13,525.57.

Since its formation in 1990, the Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation has awarded over $350,000 in teacher grants. The grants are used to fund projects or purchase specific items requested by teachers within the Unit 2 School District. Grants approved this year will cover the purchase of items such as books, electronic equipment, and musical instruments.

The foundation also awards numerous student scholarships each year and oversees the Fred Baumberger Endowment, which benefits the Character Education program in Unit 2 schools.

Memberships in the Unit 2 Academic Foundation are available starting at $25. For more information, contact Don Dillon at 664-9479.
