GRH Unveils Renovations In Family Birth Center, Introduces New Physician

Greenville Regional Hospital hosted an open house Tuesday night to showcase their newly updated Family Birth Center and introduce their newest OB-Gyn physician, Dr. Michael Schultheis.

In addition to a traditional obstetrics and gynecology specialty, Dr. Schultheis also has advanced training in laparoscopic, infertility and urogynecology services. An Illinois native, Dr. Schultheis attended the University of Illinois for both his undergraduate studies and medical school. He completed his residency at the University of Louisville and operated a practice in Effingham for several years prior to his move to Greenville.

WGEL spoke with Greenville Regional Hospital President and CEO Brian Nall about changes to the hospital’s Family Birth Center.

“Our Family Birth Center was updated in February, which was funded by our wonderful Auxiliary,” Nall told us. “We updated the flooring, added all new paint after removing the wallpaper on the walls, we reupholstered our furniture pieces and brought in some other new pieces, we more prominently displayed pictures of our babies, and have new babies’ footprints on canvas that can be observed to continue that tradition from before.”

Nall told us the hospital is on track to deliver 270 infants this year, up from 240 last year, and 205 in 2012.
