3 Year Old Boy Killed in Gillespie, Investigation Continues by ISP

On Saturday, January 3, police in Gillespie requested Illinois State Police assistance with the investigation of a critically injured child in Gillespie. At approximately 12:40 p.m., emergency medical personnel responded to a residence in the 500 block of Western Avenue in Gillespie to a report of an injured three year old boy.

The child was in the care of a friend of his mother when he sustained his unspecified injuries. The child was transported to a hospital in St. Louis with life threatening injuries and has since passed away according to Gillespie Police. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the child’s death, and to determine if charges will be brought against the friend.
