Arrests Made In Carlyle Shooting; Investigation Continues

Ethan Miller, of Carlyle

Arrests have been made in the New Year’s Day armed robbery and shooting at the Flat Branch Saloon north of Carlyle on Rt. 127. Tavern owner Phil Koehler was shot in the chest during the robbery and remains hospitalized in St. Louis.

Clinton County State’s Attorney John Hudspeth told WGEL 18 year old Ethan Miller of Carlyle has been charged with four felonies in relation to the incident. The charges include alleged aggravated armed robbery and three counts of alleged aggravated battery, ranging from Class 3 to Class X felonies. Miller is being held in the Clinton County Jail on $100,000 bail. Hudspeth said an unnamed 17 year old has been charged with similar juvenile charges.

Clinton County Chief Deputy Mike Dall told WGEL that the individuals who were arrested were also those allegedly responsible for the armed robbery of the Casey’s in Sandoval in December. Additionally, the suspects are allegedly connected to several car burglaries in Millstadt, Aviston, and Troy. Dall said at this time, it does not appear that the suspects were involved in the recent armed robbery of True Value Hardware in Greenville.

Dall stressed that the investigation is still very fluid at this point. He said in addition to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and Millstadt, Aviston, Troy, and Caseyville Police Departments are involved in the investigation.
