Critics Blast Quinn’s Clemency Decision On Highland Woman

Former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is still getting backlash for his decision to cut in half the prison sentence of a Highland woman who killed her husband by setting him on fire while he slept in 2005. Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons told the “State Journal-Register” that he doesn’t understand why Tammy Englerth’s 40-year sentence was reduced without notice to his office. Quinn offered no explanation earlier this week for making Englerth eligible for parole in 2025 rather than in 2045.
