Health Board Extends Administrator Contract

The Bond County Board of Health voted unanimously this week to extend Public Health Administrator Mark Ayers’ contract for an additional year, including a $5,000 annual raise.

During the meeting Ayers informed the board that he was looking into options to increase backup generator capacity inside the Health Department building in the event of power outages, particularly for the dental clinic and for other areas that would experience a complete work stoppage in case of loss of power. The department is also looking for a full time dentist as their current dentist, Dr. Eric Strand, is reducing his schedule from three days to two per week. Even with less staffing, the dental clinic consistently generates a profit for the department.

Ayers also shared year-end statistics from 2014 with the board, including 68 admissions to the Bond County Hospice program and the passing of 50 hospice patients. The Bond County Health Department has distributed 395 flu vaccines to individuals over the age of 65, 251 doses were administered to those under 65, and 218 child vaccines were provided. Ayers said those numbers are lower than normal and the department has extras of each type of vaccination, which will likely be returned.
