House Fire in Sorento Claims Life of Missouri Man


A house fire on N. East Street in Sorento claimed the life of 65 year old Terrance M. Corbett of Calverton Park Missouri in the early morning hours of Sunday. The fire was at 610 N. East Street, when according to Bond County Coroner Tony Brooks, a resident woke to the smell of smoke around midnight. Upon investigating the resident found intense smoke in the kitchen area where Corbett was attempting to put out the fire. The resident, whose name has not been released, told Corbett that the smoke was so intense he needed to get out of the house.

The resident also said the front door was blocked by fire and that he made it to a window on the northwest corner of the home and he believed Corbett was behind him. Corbett never made it out and was found five feet from a window and was pronounced dead around 1:20AM according to the coroner. Corbett was staying at the home as a guest. No other information on the fire has been released and the investigation continues by the coroner and the state fire Marshalls’ office, but the coroner’s office does not suspect foul play was involved in the fatal fire.

???????????????????????????????Greenville firefighters were called for mutual aid and damage to the home was extensive. Firefighters were on the scene well into Sunday morning.
