Vandalia Prison Escapee To Return To Fayette County Jail

Marcus Battice

According to an Illinois Department of Corrections Spokesman, Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison issued an arrest warrant on Tuesday for Marcus Battice, the inmate who escaped from the Vandalia Correctional Center last September. The IDOC reports that Battice will be transported, likely this Friday, from Pontiac Correctional Center (PCC) to the Fayette County Jail. Upon his capture near the Vandalia prison around 17 hours after his escape, Battice was immediately transferred to the Pontiac Correctional Center, a maximum-security prison.

If convicted on the new charge of alleged Escape From a Penal Institution, Battice will face a significant addition to his time behind bars and may face the loss of credit for time served on his original conviction.
