GFPD Responded To 213 Calls Last Year, Firefighters Recognized For Service

The Grenville Fire Protection District Annual Meeting was held this past weekend. Five firefighters were each recognized for over 30 years of service.

Claude Peper, Chief Bill Johnston, and Jon Germann were recognized for 35 years of service. Denny Wise and Jim Sutton were recognized for 30 years. Travis Neer and Bill Smith were recognized for 10 years of service. Jason Walz and Kauleen Zeh completed their first year of service in 2014. Junior Firefighter Catie Neer was recognized for one year of service.

Greenville Firefighters responded to 213 fire calls in 2014. That total includes 12 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires, 10 grass and brush fires, and 4 trash fires. Crews performed four rescues last year. 9 false alarms were received along with 14 smoke scares, 17 system malfunctions, and 38 system activations. 22 carbon monoxide detectors sent personnel into action last year.

The Greenville Fire Protection District provided mutual aid to other departments 24 times last year and requested mutual aid a total of 27 times.
