A Hillsboro man is a million dollars richer, thanks to an Illinois Lottery Fabulous Fortune scratch off instant ticket.

40 year old Nicholas Putnam has lived in Hillsboro for 30 years. He was at home when he scratched the winning ticket. He said he and his wife plan to use the windfall to pay off their house, invest, and take a vacation.

An occasional lottery player, Putnam said he buys one instant ticket per month. He bought his $1million ticket at the Shell station on Main Street in Hillsboro. The station received a $10,000 bonus. Putnam chose to receive his prize in payments of $50,000 per year for 20 years.
