The New Douglas Fire Department was paged to a structure fire at 165 Mettlerville Lane Saturday at approximately 5:00 a.m.
Madison County 911 received the call from a third party who reported the house was filled with smoke and said they believed all occupants of the house were out of the structure.
Danny Robertson of the New Douglas Fire Department told WGEL that road conditions at the time of the fire were extremely dangerous due to the weather and hampered the response time for departments en route to the scene. The Olive, Alhambra, Shoal Creek, and Old Ripley Fire Departments along with Staunton Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.
Robertson said heavy fire was present upon their arrival and the house was a total loss. Crews were on the scene for approximately 5 hours. The cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
Officials have not released the name of the homeowner, but confirmed no one was injured in relation to the fire.
