Area Fire Departments Kept Busy Over The Weekend

Keyesport firefighters were paged to a camper fire on Kay Lane in Harbor Light Bay Saturday around 1:40 p.m. Fire Chief Jim Golder told WGEL the fire was started when the owner was burning leaves in a ditch near the camper and the fire spread. The camper was fully involved when crews arrived and was a total loss. No one was injured. A second camper was located near the original camper, but did not sustain any damage. Keyesport personnel were on the scene for about an hour.

Greenville firefighters were called into action twice Saturday in the 4:00 p.m. hour. At 4:20, firefighters responded to a grass fire near the skate park at the Kingsbury Park District pool. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes.

The second call came at 4:45 p.m. and involved a field fire on Country Club Avenue. The fire was a controlled burn that had gotten out of control. Crews were on the scene for a little over an hour.

Highland-Pierron firefighters were called to a controlled burn around 6:00 p.m. Saturday. The landowner had been burning trash and was concerned the fire was growing out of control.
