Bond County Natives Recognized By Air Force, Army

Landy Sheeley receives the Honor Guardsman of the Year Award.

Two Bond County Natives were recently recognized by their respective branches of the Armed Forces.

Landon Sheeley, the son of Michael Sheeley and Kathy Sheeley, of Greenville, was named Honor Guardsman of the Year at the Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico.

Rodney Thacker, of Chatham, IL, a Sorento native, was promoted to the rank of colonel recently at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, IL. Thacker serves as the full-time Plans, Operations and Training Officer for the Illinois National Guard. Thacker has more than 32 years of military service with the Illinois Army National Guard, including 20 years of full-time service. He was deployed to Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009 as an Embedded Training Team mentor in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
