A small airplane ran off the runway at Shafer Flying Service in St. Jacob Saturday afternoon. A Shafer spokesman told WGEL the pilot was attempting to take off around 3:00 p.m. when the engine quit and the plane ran off the runway and got stuck in the mud. The impact dislodged a tire on the plane. The pilot was the only person on the plane and was not injured.
