Sirens To Sound Tuesday As Part Of Statewide Tornado Drill

This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Illinois and the Federal Communications Commission has granted a one-time waiver of their Emergency Alert System rules for the use of a “live” tornado warning during the annual statewide tornado exercise in Illinois Tuesday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m.

The City of Greenville will sound the tornado sirens as part of the test for a full three minutes.

The annual exercise is conducted by schools, businesses, law enforcement agencies, emergency managers, and the public to prepare for the Illinois severe thunderstorm and tornado season. The main component is the ability to test weather alert radios, law enforcement communications networks, and the EAS equipment of Illinois broadcasters.

The National Weather Service has confirmed they will proceed with the drill Tuesday despite rain in the forecast.

Once again, there will be a live tornado warning Tuesday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. For more information, call the National Weather Service at 636-447-1876.
