The driver of a semi truck that left the roadway and nearly struck a house Tuesday afternoon on IL Rt. 140 was issued a citation for allegedly driving too fast for conditions.
Illinois State Police told WGEL there was no clear reason for the Swift Transportation truck, driven by 28 year old Rodney Washington from Bakersfield, California to leave the roadway. The accident occurred near Z & Z Road in the 900 block of Rt. 140. When the eastbound truck left the road, it struck a pole, several pieces of lawn furniture, and the concrete well at the residence. Around 100 gallons of fuel were spilled near the well, due to a ruptured fuel tank. Greenville firefighters spent about an hour on the scene containing the spill.
