United Stationers Announces Intent to Reposition To New Brand, Essendant

Changes are on the horizon for one of the largest employers in Bond County.

United Stationers Inc., with a distribution center in Greenville, along with their partner brands Azerty, LagasseSweet, and ORS Nasco, have announced their intent to reposition under a single brand that will be known as Essendant.

Corporate officials say the repositioning will capture the strength of the four companies as one team with one goal.

Diane Hund, Vice President of Marketing at United Stationers, told WGEL the company will “record a charge of $9 million related to facility and workforce consolidations”, but would not comment specifically on the number of layoffs planned or any potential impact to the Greenville distribution facility.

The name Essendant is a combination of the words ‘essentials’ and ‘ascending’. Hund told WGEL the name change will become effective in June 2015, pending shareholder approval.

With 77 distribution centers, United Stationers Inc. is a supplier of workplace essentials, such as traditional office products, janitorial supplies, and office furniture. They reported net sales in 2014 of $5.3 billion.
