April is 9-1-1 Education Month

The Greenville City Council has proclaimed April as National 9-1-1 Education Month in Greenville.

Bond county 9-1-1 Coordinator Alan Davis talked to WGEL about the observance.

Becky Blackburn is the 9-1-1 manager at the Greenville Police Department and Stephanie Hays has the same title for the Bond County Sheriff’s Department. They will be visiting first graders at schools in Pocahontas, Sorento, Greenville and Mulberry Grove.

Davis said each day the center receives calls in error from the public. He tells people what to do if this occurs.

Through the proclamation, the city council wants to promote the importance of 9-1-1 and its services.
