“Dukes of Hazzard” fans are remembering Roscoe P. Coltrane.
James Best, who played the bumbling sheriff on the popular eighties TV show, died Monday at the age of 88 in Hickory, North Carolina.
Last summer, Best served as the celebrity guest at the annual Greenville Graffiti Car Show.

Car show organizer John Goldsmith shared some thoughts with WGEL about working with, and getting to know, James Best:

Goldsmith said Best enjoyed his visit to Greenville so much that his agent asked if he could be part of the car show again this year, however the starts of the classic TV show the Munsters were already booked for the event. Best told Goldsmith Greenville reminded him of his small hometown in Indiana and remarked numerous times on his amazement at the size of the FS grain bin.

Best’s lengthy career included 83 movies and 600 TV shows, but he will always be remembered for being the frustrated lawman in constant pursuit of Bo and Luke Duke on the hit comedy that ran from 1979 to 1985 on CBS.
