Governor Bruce Rauner has frozen many state expenditures in an attempt to deal with Illinois’ financial crisis. One victim of a spending freeze appeared to be the state grant lined up for the Kingsbury Park District, which would have allowed for renovations and upgrades to the KPD pool.
In their meeting this week, KPD Director Jerry Sauerwein told the park district board that the grant was not included in the initial budget sweeps and, while he has not received official word from the Department of Natural Resources, he is cautiously optimistic that the funds may eventually be released. For now, though, the project is still in a holding pattern.
Sauerwein told WGEL if the project is able to continue, some work could be conducted next year, but major construction would be delayed until the end of the 2016 pool season.
Sauerwein also told the board that enrollment is now open for two new programs; tumbling and martial arts classes. For information, visit KingsburyParkDistrict.com or call 664-4969.
