Highland Home Damaged By Fire

A home on Sundew Lane in Highland sustained major damage in an early morning fire Monday. Highland firefighters were paged to the home at 12:40 a.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Kerry Federer told WGEL the fire appears to have started in a wall near a hot tub on a two story sun porch behind the home. Firemen were on the scene for three hours and the porch sustained extensive damage, while the home sustained significant smoke damage.

Federer said no one was injured; a couple and their pets escaped when their smoke detectors sounded.
