Council Anticipates Dollar General Will Stay In Current Location

A new site for the Dollar General Store in Greenville was a topic of conversation at Tuesday night’s Greenville City Council meeting.

It was earlier announced there were plans for a new building to be constructed in the 300 block of South Third Street.

Greenville City Manager Dave Willey said while the city hasn’t given up, the project doesn’t look promising now.

Willey said Dollar General is not interested in any other existing vacant building in Greenville.

The city manager reported the city has notified the owner of the current Dollar General building about exterior issues, specifically, the overhang roof at the walk on the south side of the building.

Dollar General leases the building from the owner and Willey said the current lease expires at the end of the summer. He anticipates Dollar General will sign a new lease for the current location in the 100 block of South Third Street.
