An American Red Cross blood drive was held at the Sorento Municipal Center Tuesday, May 5. Fourteen productive units were collected, with four units being red blood cells and 10 units being whole blood. Fourteen prospective donors registered.
Terry Pope and Kim Houchlei each donated two units of red blood cells. Red cells are needed by trauma victims; in surgeries such as organ transplants, hip replacements and aneurysms; for anemia; and for blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia.
Michelle Durbin was presented a blood drop pin as a first-time donor. Brett Kunkel was awarded a five-gallon pin, and Diane Melvin earned a 13-gallon pin.
