Suspect In Cape Girardeau Abduction Taken Into Custody Friday

A suspect in the Cape Girardeau kidnapping case that involved the victim escaping in Effingham, IL was taken into custody Friday. 43 year old Jeffery M. Lazier, of Coal City, IL was arrested Friday afternoon in Yorkville, IL, just west of Chicago.

Lazier is accused of allegedly kidnapping an adult female in Cape Girardeau, MO this past Tuesday morning. The still-unidentified female said she was sitting in her car in Cape County Park South in Cape Girardeau when she was forced into Lazier’s red extended cab pickup truck. She told police she was driven to various locations and sexually assaulted before she managed to escape in Effingham around 6:00 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab advised that fingerprints taken from the victim’s vehicle were tracked to Jeffery Lazier, a registered sex offender in the state of Illinois. Further, investigators confirmed that Lazier owned the pickup truck in question. He was arrested by Illinois State Police and the FBI without incident and is being held in Cape Girardeau County on $250,000 bond.
