County Board Talks Courthouse Improvements, Approves Variance


Improvements to the Bond County Courthouse were a main topic of discussion at this week’s Bond County Board meeting. The board approved a $19,281.69 bid from Z & Z Electric for the replacements of lights in the courthouse and county annex building. The money will come from the Public Building Commission Fund. The board also discussed options for water and drainage problems, gutter repair, carpeting for the courthouse board room, and sidewalk repair. The board said their goal is to have the external work done in time for the Greenville Bicentennial celebration in September.

The board approved a Small Rural Business Special Use Permit and variance for CSX railroad, allowing for a Southwestern Electric Substation to be built in Section 4 of Pleasant Mound Township.

They also approved six county aid projects for the Bond County Highway Department, in Shoal Creek, Mulberry Grove, Peasant Mound, LaGrange, and Burgess Townships. The Highway Department was also authorized to hire Dennis Glisson as a seasonal employee.

Howard Elmore, Dr. Tracy Hall, Jo Kirkham, Dr. Sandy Long, and Anna Oestreich were approved for three year terms to the Bond County Board of Health.

Sherry Schaefer was appointed to a term on the Greenville Airport Authority, ending March 20, 2020.

The board approved liquor licenses for Copper Dock, Kenny’s Lake Stop, and the Greenville Country Club.
