Death Investigation In Witt


Montgomery County Sheriff’s Officers are investigating a death in Witt.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received at the sheriff’s department Monday, June 29, at 7:50 p.m., of an injured white female at the Witt City Hall requesting assistance.

The female, Kristi V. Stevens, age 23, of Witt, said her boy friend, Richard D. Green, age 41, attacked her at their residence on Mitchell Street and she stabbed Green while protecting herself and her two-year-old child.

Montgomery County Deputies and Nokomis Police responded to the city hall and met with Stevens. She had several injuries and told officers she had stabbed Green. Officers then went to the residence on Mitchell Street where they located Green. Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus pronounced Green deceased at 8:10 p.m.

Nokomis-Witt Ambulance Service took Stevens to Hillsboro Area Hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Officers, Witt Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office continue the investigation.
