Dennis Wise has been the new Greenville Fire Protection District fire chief for a month and is still becoming acclimated to the new position. He said after more than 30 years with the department, he is proud to be the chief:
Wise replaced Bill Johnston, who retired from the job after more than 20 years as fire chief.
The new chief said it has been a tough couple of weeks for the department as two residential fires led to families losing their homes and belongings because the fires were too far along by the time they were discovered. Wise said all firemen answer calls hoping to be of service to those facing adversity:
Being a volunteer firefighter takes a tremendous amount of training. Fire Chief Wise said he is leading a very good department:
The Greenville department is celebrating its 130th year of service this year.
