Sentencing In New Year’s Day Flat Branch Saloon Robbery, Shooting

Ethan R. Miller, age 18, of Carlyle, has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a robbery and shooting early New Year’s day at a residence next to the Flat Branch Saloon along Illinois Rt. 127, just south of the Bond-Clinton county line.

Under the negotiated plea, Miller was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for armed robbery and aggravated battery to a person over the age of 60. The defendant was ordered to pay $65,287 restitution.

Upon completion of his prison sentence, Miller will be on mandatory supervised release for three years.

The 61-year –old male owner of the saloon was shot once in the chest during the robbery. He survived the shooting.

Another defendant in the incident, a 17-year-old juvenile male from Clinton County also faces charges.
