Suicide At Carlyle Lake Patoka Access Area


The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department received a call Sunday, June 28, at 11:49 p.m., of a person at the Carlyle Lake Patoka access area with a firearm threatening to harm himself. Fayette County Deputies and Illinois State Police responded. The person was asked several times to get out of his vehicle but he did not respond.

Officers on scene heard a single gunshot and upon investigating, found the person with a gunshot wound. Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen pronounced the man dead at 1:54 a.m. Monday, and identified him as 38 year-old Marty Brandt of Sandoval.

The Fayette County Coroner is investigating.
