The wheat harvest has started, but unfortunately, the quality of the wheat isn’t looking very good so far. WGEL’s Farm Reporter, Joe Doll, spoke with Jim Riddle, the Grain Manager at South Central FS for Total Grain Marketing:
The test weight for wheat is normally 60 pounds, but Riddle says this year, the numbers have ranged from 52 to 57 pounds.
Riddle also said yields have widely varied so far this year:
The wheat harvest is close to wrapping up. Riddle compared the wheat harvest to a sprint, while fall harvest is a marathon.
