As part of the time capsule opening program last Tuesday night, an unofficial beard measuring was conducted for those registered in the Greenville Bicentennial Brothers of the Brush contest.
10 of the 20 contestants were able to attend. Sandy Kleinik, director of the contest, used a small tape measure to measure the beards as each contestant was announced and stepped forward.
In attendance were David Hill, Ryan Oldham, Dale Sarginson, Arnie Volkmar, Jim Blankenship, Merle Shaw, Ward Sussenbach, David Bare, Mike Ennen, and Shawn Cox. Bare had the longest beard at 11 inches.
The final measurements in the beard contest will take place at 1 p.m. on September 5, the opening day of the Greenville Bicentennial weekend.
