Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn has identified the Clinton County man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fire late Monday night.
24 year old Max A. Davis, of Carlyle, was the driver of a 1993 Ford Ranger that was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 255, south of New Poag Road in Chouteau Township. Davis’ pickup collided with a southbound Cadillac STS and the pickup subsequently burned. The driver of the Cadillac was transferred to a St. Louis hospital and the driver’s condition remains unknown. The incident was reported to 9-1-1 at 10:21 p.m.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:48 p.m. Monday by a coroner’s investigator.
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday and further testing will be conducted. The Illinois State Police continue to investigate the crash as well.
