Health Department Emphasizes Safety Around Animals

The Bond County Health Department is emphasizing safety by individuals when they are around animals.

Mark Ayers, department administrator, said persons should contact the health department when any person is bitten by an animal or when they have come in contact with a bat. Click below to hear more:

Contact the health department at 664-1442 during business hours, Monday through Friday, and after hours call 618-616-9561.

Ayers said the department wants to make sure there is no spread of rabies from animals to humans. To do this, animals must be preserved for testing. Click below to hear more:

Recently, a Bond County family discovered a bat in their residence. Ayers said the bat was tested for rabies and the tests came back negative, so the family did not have to take rabies shots.
