Oil Cleanup Efforts Continue On Highland’s Silver Creek; Silver Lake Still Closed


Efforts to clean an oil spill that leaked into Highland’s Silver Creek continue today. The oil spill was reported last Friday afternoon, when a then-unknown amount of oil was released from the Plains Pipeline pump station on Baumann Road. The oil leaked into Silver Creek, but not Silver Lake.

The lake has been closed since Friday, though, as part of the remediation process.

Conrad said crews are accessing Silver Creek through the lake with equipment on the water, using the main dock at Silver Lake Park. The lake will remain closed until further notice to protect the workers and equipment on the lake. Silver Lake Park is open to the public.
