Unit 2 Contract Negotiations Underway

Negotiations on new contracts for the certified teaching staff and non-certified staff in Bond County Community Unit 2 are underway.

Negotiations committee members for the unions and the school board met recently to establish the ground rules. Their last meeting was scheduled for July 31 with one to follow on August 7.

The school board’s committee includes Nate Prater and Edmar Schreiber.

Both contracts are currently expired.

Mike Wilhite, district buildings director, reported work is progressing on improvements to North Dewey Street, and parts to repair the air conditioning at Greenville Jr. High have been ordered. The total cost is about $11,000. Unit 2 employees will install the air conditioning parts.

A contract with Bushue Human Resources of Effingham was renewed at a cost of $8,640. The firm has assisted the district for several years with curbing costs associated with risk management and insurance. Superintendent Wes Olson said Bushue recommends best practices to follow and provides savings at a cost far beyond the amount paid for the firm’s services.

The board approved the bids of Bimbo Bakery to provide bread, Prairie Farms Dairy for dairy products, Aramark for towel service, Greenville Tire Service for tires, South Central FS for motor oil and diesel exhaust fluid, and Fastenal of Highland for anti-freeze.

The district’s technology refresh plan was approved for the 2015-16 school year, utilizing no more than $80,000 of the education fund lease-levy monies.
