Back To School Details & Festivities For Unit 2 Students

Bond County Unit #2 schools will begin the fall schedule with a Teacher In service Day on August 17, while all students will begin classes August 18 with a one-hour early dismissal. The one-hour early dismissal will be observed August 18 – 21.

Greenville Elementary School will host “Back to School Night” Monday, August 17 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Parents and students are encouraged to visit their child’s classroom, drop off supplies, and meet teachers before heading to the playground to enjoy an ice cream treat provided by the GES Parent Club.

GES will host a Kindergartener and Family Welcome in their respective classrooms Tuesday, August 18th. Kindergarten students and parents with last names starting with letters A-M will meet from 8:45 to 10:15 a.m. and last names starting with letters N – Z will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Kindergarten students do NOT ride the bus this day and go home with parents at the end of their assigned welcome session. The first day for Kindergarten students to be transported on buses will be Wednesday, August 19th. There will be no family visitors on this day.

Pocahontas School will host a ‘Back to School Night’ Monday, August 17 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. There will be a brief welcome from the principal in the gymnasium at 5:00. After the welcome, students and parents are encouraged to visit their child’s classroom, drop off supplies, meet their teachers, and learn details about the upcoming school year. The first day of school for first through eighth grade students is Tuesday, August 18. Kindergarten students and parents do not need to come to the ‘Back to School Night’ as their ‘First Day’ activities will be Tuesday, August 18 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the classroom. Kindergarten students do NOT ride the bus on Tuesday, August 18. The first day for Kindergarten students to be transported on buses will be Wednesday, August 19.

Sorento School will host a ‘Back to School Night’ Monday, August 17 from 5:00 to 6:00p.m. Students and parents are encouraged to visit their child’s classroom, drop off supplies, meet their teachers, and learn details about the upcoming school year. The first day of school for first through eighth grade students is Tuesday, August 18. Kindergarten students and their parents will arrive at school at 9:30 on August 18. They will put their supplies away and become familiar with their cubbies, table seat and classroom. There will be table activities for the students and parents. Once all students have arrived, the librarian will read to the kids and go over library rules while Mrs. Maxwell and Mr. Carpenter go over Kindergarten’s daily schedule, what they will be learning and expectations. Students will leave with their parents and the first day of Kindergarten will begin on Wednesday, August 19.

Greenville Jr. High will host an Open House Monday, August 17 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. All students will have the opportunity to walk-thru and bring school supplies.

There will be a Preschool screening on August 18. Please call 664-5009 to schedule an appointment. The ECE/KRP classes at Greenville Elementary will begin August 24.
