The approval of a bill by the Illinois legislature and governor to pass federal funds to local agencies was welcomed news to Anna Oestreich, executive director of the Bond County Senior Center.
Oestreich emphasized that the legislation would not have met with as much success as it did if it had not been for the, “overwhelming support of the community.”

She said no reduction in services occurred at the center, however there is now a waiting list for the Meals On Wheels Program.
The state still needs to approve a new budget which could help the senior center even more, according to Oestreich.
She said if the original line items and amounts that were requested by the governor stay as he originally intended in his first budget issue, the center would actually see an increase for home-delivered meals. That would in turn allow the center to lift the temporary curtailing of adding new recipients to the program list.
