The 15th annual Clinton County Relay For Life was held at Central High School Friday.
A total of $75,573.17 was raised at the event. The grand total raised by the Clinton County Relay for Life over 15 years now stands at over $3.2 million.
The top team, Under Janet’s Wings, raised $12,580. Other top fundraising teams include Jim’s Formal Wear ($6,328.72), Central Football Team ($4,534.11), Greg’s Gang ($3,810.50), Breese Dental Care ($3,200), Friday Night Fighters ($2,752.53), The Survivors ($2,695), Kapptain Chemo ($2,644), Trudy’s Trotters ($2,500), iHope..weCure ($2,051.25), T Mann Team ($1,508), Superwalkers ($1,495), Trenton Elementary School ($1,331.92), Wesclin Senior High School ($1,250), American Eagles ($1,015.03), DK Crue ($986), Parrotheads of Clinton County ($761), Breese Youth Ministry ($709) and Team Allsup ($500).
The coveted Pink Flamingo trophy, awarded to the team that accumulates the most spirit points by attending team meetings, hosting fundraisers leading up the event and competing in activities the night of Relay, went to the American Eagles team. The Jim’s Formal Wear team came in second and the team, Kapptain Chemo, came in third.
365 luminaries were lit around the track during the Luminaria Ceremony.
175 survivors of Clinton County were recognized and celebrated during the Opening Ceremony and Survivor lap. Cumulatively, the group has 1,538 years of survivorship.
26 teams were involved in the Clinton County Relay for Life event this year. A total of 15 teams won fundraising club awards. All the teams will be recognized for their great effort at the Relay Wrap Up Meeting on Wednesday, August 26th at Good Ol’ Days Restaurant in New Baden starting at 6:00pm.
