County Board Talks Courthouse Improvements, Budget Issues

Improvements at the Bond County Courthouse were a topic of discussion for the Bond County Board once again this week. The board opted to send several bids – for sidewalk removal and replacement, gutter and soffit work, and carpeting for the courthouse board room – to the county building commission.

It was noted that the state budget impasse is having a negative effect on several county departments, including the Senior Center, the State’s Attorney’s office, the Probation office, and the Supervisor of Assessments’ office.

Treasurer Katie Weiss told the board she was going to make a property tax distribution in the next couple of weeks, earlier than planned, to help prevent the Bond County Unit 2 School District from having to borrow money in an effort to avoid cash flow problems.
