Courthouse Security Program Marks Five Years

It has been almost five years since the Bond County Courthouse security program was started by the sheriff’s department.

Two security guards are on duty at all times to greet visitors to the courthouse. Visitors are required to enter through the south door and walk through a metal detector.

Sheriff Jeff Brown said the program, which was initiated due to a threat at the courthouse, has been successful in keeping the courthouse safe for everyone. Funds for the program come from the court security savings account. Brown noted that everyone who works as a security officer is a retired state trooper or department of corrections employee.
