Kaskaskia Trio Program Receives $1.1 Million Grant


The Kaskaskia College TRIO Program is the recipient of a federal grant to continue services to students.

The competitive grant is for $1.1 million to cover the next five years.

Congressman John Shimkus was at the college last week and commended the college for the services provided by the TRIO Program. Shimkus told WGEL he is proud of Kaskaskia College’s outreach to area students. Click below to hear more of his comments:

Pat Stansfield, director of TRIO at the college, was excited to receive funding to continue services.

She told WGEL the TRIO program allows the college to give a personal point of contact for students to receive all the support they need and to have any questions they have answered. She said KC students are twice as likely to graduate than the national average for community college students. Click below for more:

Stansfield said she believes receipt of the grant is due to a dedicated staff and the support of Kaskaskia College and the communities served by the college.
