There is a new Community Center in Pocahontas, located in the old brick United Methodist Church building.
Laurie Timmermann, administrator of the center, told WGEL the United Methodist Church had two church buildings and they voted in October to only use one. Rather than have a historic building sit empty, they decided to open a community center, since Pocahontas didn’t have anything like that.
Timmermann said the upstairs level can be used for concerts, plays, weddings, and movie screenings. The lower level, once upgraded, could be good for receptions, meetings for seniors and local scouts, and a reading room. She said the reading room could eventually be turned into a library.
