It will cost more this school year for parents of students in the Bond County Community Unit 2 school district to feed their children at school.
During a special meeting Tuesday night, the school board approved an increase of 25 cents per breakfast and lunch meal. The vote was 7-0.
Superintendent Wes Olson said the prices had not been changed in several years and the increase was necessary to allow the food service department to continue to operate with a positive balance. He added that without an increase, federal reimbursement could be negatively impacted.
The new prices for students in kindergarten through grade eight are $1.45 for breakfast and $2 for lunch. High school students will pay $2.25 for lunch.
For adults, the prices are $1.75 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch.
