Bicentennial Kicks Off With 5K Run/Walk

The first event at the Greenville Bicentennial Celebration Saturday morning was the 5K run and walk.

A total of 102 runners and walkers registered.

Pat Kious, event coordinator, said the registration fees totaled over $4,000 for the bicentennial.

The overall female runner was Ruth Hanebrink of Greenville, and the top male runner was Steve Smith of Greenville.

Winners were announced in seven age groups.

They included Case Goldsmith and Claire Cayo in the through 13 division, Kyle Petter and Anne Ennen in the 14 to 19 group, Zachary Carlton and Heather Wernle in the 20 to 29 group, Dan Valentino and Misty Ade in the 30 to 39 group, Adam Mullins and Tammy Kinkel in the 40 to 49 group, Darrin Williams and Karen Behm in the 50 to 59 group, and Larry Walcheck and Kathy Beatty in the 60 and older group.

Claire Cayo, age 11 and ½ month was pushed in her stroller by her father Paul, who ran the course.
