The city council voted to obtain bids to install a sidewalk on the east side of South Fourth Street, from Franklin Avenue to the health department.

A state grant, in the amount of $132,000, is available for the sidewalk. City Manager Willey said the sidewalk can be done for approximately $160,000. He said health department officials will be contacted to see if they can contribute, and then the city will have to come up with money from its sidewalk budget.

The $160,000 estimate does not include any retaining walls that would have to be built. Willey told the council the city has enough right-of-way for the project.
