During a budget hearing Monday, the Mulberry Grove Board of Education approved the 2015-2016 budget as presented by Superintendent Brad Turner. The unbalanced budget shows deficit spending in the education, operations & maintenance, and transportation funds but the transportation fund is the only account with an anticipated negative balance as of June 30, 2016. Turner said projected income is based on receipt of three categorical state aid payments this year in addition to the payment received in July.
In the treasurer’s report, Turner said the district received an early disbursement of tax money and additional tax funds are expected by the end of September. General state aid payments continue to arrive on time and district expenditures remain stable.
The board approved a trip for Mulberry Grove FFA members to attend the National FFA Convention in October, in Louisville, Kentucky. The board approved and ratified the proposed contract with the MGEA for 2015-2016. The MGEA ratified the contract during a meeting after school Monday. The purchase of math books for the high school Math 1 and Math 2 classes was approved.
Following a closed session, the board hired Lindsey Beckham, head softball coach; Ian Wolf, assistant high school boy’s basketball coach; and Missy Vohlken, high school cheerleading coach. The board approved a salary increase and benefits package for non-certified staff.
